Les Issambres
The name Les Issambres is relatively recent and dates back to the 20th century. Originally, this territory was part of the commune of Roquebrune-sur-Argens and consisted mainly of wooded hills and small wild coves facing the Mediterranean. The name "Les Issambres" likely comes from the Provençal word isambre or issambre, which refers to a small cove or sloping land descending to the sea, characteristic of this jagged coastline.
For centuries, the area remained sparsely inhabited and served mainly as agricultural land or pastures. A few fishermen and farmers lived here, taking advantage of the proximity to the sea and the relative fertility of the land. It was not until the early 20th century that the site truly began to develop, particularly thanks to the touristic appeal of the French Riviera and the creation of residential developments.
Today, Les Issambres is known for its coves, beaches and preserved natural setting between sea and hills. This maritime district of Roquebrune-sur-Argens has become a beloved destination for visitors and residents who come to enjoy its peaceful atmosphere, its harbours and its exceptional view of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
